A little bush tucker

"Jami" or "Minyjagarra"

Otherwise known as Vicks Plant (Stemodia grossa)

Traditionally used as a Bush Medicine

The leaves and branches of Jami is covered with sticky oil glands causing it to smell like that old family favorite, Vicks Vapour Rub. Jami was an important plant used to alleviate congestion and aching joints

Sarah Hicks, one of our MLSU Rangers says that she "uses Jami when she feels as though she is coming down with a cold or has a runny nose".

Ceremony - This aromatic plant was rubbed over the skin of new born babies to keep evil spirits away.
